I have been interested in this LVT-1 since a machine gunner referenced it in conversation as the one he rode in on with 2nd platoon E-2-2-2. The aerial marks it in the water. I took a stop motion from a film, enlarged it and then created highest contrast available. Anything can happen in that process so no certainty whatsoever but its interesting that the second number appears as a 4. An open top one but sure looks like a 4. Lonnie Yancey (in 2nd platoon) referenced his LVT-1 as 32 or 36. I'm inclined to do away with 32 as it ended up on the beach and the one they rode in ended up in a crater. Too, as I understand it, 35 and 36 have no info available. The gunner said they high topped on the wall and were shot up. It was backed up into the water about 100yds when the engine died. All were either KIA or WIA. The living swam to the pier and floated the more critically wounded at night where they were picked up. The only other possibility is the one further west. One of these two out in the water is likely Amey's that got hung up on wire about 200yds as I recall. I have spoken to Al about this but wondered if anyone else has other info on either of these two tracks in the water off Red 2? I'm still trying to zero in on the possibility that more than one trac ended up in a crater off R1. One, as we know has been identified as 1st platoon E-2-2.  If 31 isn't Lonnie's then my mind is zeroing in on 35 and 36 which are not to be found anywhere that I know of. Action reports mentioned 4 LVTs getting 'inboard' of the sea wall. References to LVTs falling into craters have one on R-3, one on R-2 and one on R-1. That leaves just  one remaining to be found..
