I am still here Kim! How are doing buddy? Thanks for mentioning me.

Hello Jon, Tom and Gunny,
I am working on a LVTs book, but the process is slow especially after that damn covid!
LVT #4 and 6 were aboard the Zeilin (confirmed) . F-company 2/2 was also aboard the Zeilin
along with 2nd Amphib  A-company and C-company.

Happy and Healthy New Year to all

Hello Kim, Gunny, Tom, and everyone else,
I'm still here in Sunny Los Angeles, Ca. U.S.A .,
My research has been on the "delay" side with this pandemic B.S.!
Still finding things and attempting to get LVT information.
I don't visit this site as much, I would like to see the old forum and get information from the many conversations with the veterans, family of veterans, researchers and tarawa historians (all of you) that we had on the LVT, but I am afraid it's all lost.
If you have any questions (anyone) about the LVTs, post it here or contact me directly aaguerrero2@gmail.com
 Take care,
Al

Tarawa Photographs and Film / Re: LVT upended on sea wall.

Hello Fellas,
Sorry for the long delay.
First of all the photos Kim posted (please tell me how you managed to post them) YES #45 is on Red-3 but its not as near to the pier as you may think.
The second photo with LVT #10 on RED-2's seawall. This is confusing without knowing the date the photo was taken. Tom's aerial photo of Red-2 with an unknown LVT on the seawall, might be #10, stuck there after the 1st wave landing. But if this is the LVT that Lilly landed in, then the right tracks would have been blown off and repair parts were not available during this battle, the track would have remained unrepaired. The battle damage report on #10 only shows a few machine gun holes.

Looking at the seawall photo of #10, there is very little "battle debris" around #10 (no packs, ammo boxes, bodies) #10 is seen landing elements of 10th Marines with thier 105mm howitzer from a higgins boat from the LaSalle (AP 102) The 10th Mar/4 Bat (105mm howitzers) did not land until the morning of the 23rd of Nov (D+3).

How did #10 got on the seawall ..It is possible that #10 landed on the first wave on the seawall and was abandoned when the crew was killed, after the fighting moved inland, a substitute crew took over, removed it form the wall and put it back in service but... with the lack of battle debris around it, a bulldozer near it and the one marine under with a second standing guard (or making jokes) on the seawall make me think the driver accidentally got it stuck!

Hello Kim,
These are great photos, LVT #41 was Don Crain's LVT. He writes about it in an article I once saw. This photo is from the salvage area off of Red-2, photo were taken from the beach looking inot the lagoon.  The location is west of Shoups CP near the long pier.
I will start looking into the Saipan campaign.

Tarawa Talk / LVT Photo after the battle
« on: May 06, 2020, 12:47:33 am »
Hello All!
I pray all of you are well and sane during these strange times.
I am looking for an original print of this photo. This photo was with a group of photos for sale several years ago on EBAY.  This particular photo shows LVT-1 #7 on RedBeach-1, maybe 1 year after the battle.
I do not know who took this photo.

SORRY, I could not get the photos to post, so lets try this Google site. If this doesnt work out .....well.. I will try someting else..Thanks

Hi Tom,
Like the Gunny said, this is LVT 11, IRON MIKE, it has a grappling hook for the barb wire on the rear deck, and the  "numbered sign" is the radiator cover, it is welded on each side of the "track side fenders aka catwalk" these were on the first production run of the LVT-1, the radiator ports were uncovered after that.
