There seems to be a HUGE collection from the indy. Tarawa, Saipan, Marshalls etc. Must of been a honest mistake, nothing in collection seems to be in order. Photos are watermarked by the Navy. Nice shot of the pier ive never seen before, sorry just took photo of the screen. Sorry. Warm Regards All

They are not Marine Corps vehicles so I seriously doubt that they were on Tarawa.

Hi Everybody Stumbled across these photos on a site, claiming these Tanks to be on Tarawa. One with a Skull on top, and White Stars. The other one seems to fit better. Ideas?, Thoughts.

I pronounce it the same way my dad did which was "Tar-uh-wuh." Of course, we are country boys from southeast Texas so have the southern drawl to deal with lol.
I like the way the folks that live on Tawara pronounce it which is "Tadda-wah." There was one of the Kiribati girls that was around us a lot on both trips and I would ask her to say it because I liked how it sounded.
As I recall, the Gilbertese language has only 20 letters and they are big on k, n, g, a, i, t, and u.

Yep... same as my dad. I have heard people use Tear-uh-wa but not a lot. I, for whatever reason, have always said "TAR-ah-wa" ??

Interesting. Always heard Ta-Rah-wa from my dad. As in "Ta-Rah-wa boom-de-ay" sung to a popular song. Never hear "Tear-uh-wa" once.
