Green Beach - Landing Craft?
« on: July 22, 2020, 04:50:13 pm »
Found this image on Ebay.  It still might be for sale.  It is labeled as Tarawa.  It seems like this might be facing Green beaches?  What do you think?

Hi All
Mmm, for some reason, it dosnt sit right to me. It feels like to many trees, dosn't seem wide enuff. I would expect to see some of the pier, on left hand side of this pic, and on the right of the pic in the distance we should see distant Bairiki. If you even stand at point of Temakin Point, Bairiki, is about at your 1 o'clock. Also lack of disabled Lvts on left side of pic.
But hey if is the real deal, awesome, bit confused over trees and how close they all seem to be.

Do notice were the 8inch is ment to be, on Temakin Point looks like explosions?.
But again, could be totally new pic. But for some reason dosnt sit right, if its ment to be the 2nd day.

Ive figured out whats bothered me about the ebay pic. The runway extension lack of trees in area. Here is pre invasion photo D-2. Notice lack of trees at southern end. And again see how far pier stands out. I really think if you faced Green Beach in 1943 the Pier would stand out more.
Only other thing i can come up with is Makin or Abemama ? in Gilberts ( Kiribati ).
I say this only because i have seen Betio photos under the name Gilbert Islands. Heck ive seen Betio photos under Kwajalein

I'm suspicious too. I would think there would be some kind of 'background' noise/ smoke in the air. The canopy looks way too plush looking at it a few hours into D-Day.

Definitely not Betio. I suspect Makin or Abemama as well.
