New Zealand or Camp Tarawa?
« on: March 28, 2024, 11:12:46 pm »
Take a look at the attached picture.  My dad is in the center and the other Marines I think are H&S 2 men.  This has to be either New Zealand or Camp Tarawa.  What do you think?

Hi cactus
Glad to hear from you. Definitely not here in NZ. Yes we can grow some cactus, here, at our homes, never seen wild catus, in all my bush hikes.

More likely Hawaii at  Camp Tarawa. Never really associate it with the Islands but looked it up and they do have them..  Pendleton has a lot if he was ever stationed there...

I have two series of pictures of H&S Marines.  One group is definitely NZ as they were visiting some sort of Garden with girls and tiki images around.  The second series is the H&S Marines sitting around the cactus which is one of the pictures I posted.  There could have been radio training at Camp Pendleton.  The ranks on the sleaves might help to identify the approximate date too.  I will do some more checking and report back!

Thanks,

Jon
