LVT section updates
« on: November 17, 2020, 01:22:48 pm »
Working to get as many LVTs up on the website as possible.  I have the report on the damaged LVTs and I plan to add pages for each LVT.  Working on LVT 23 that was used as Crowe's CP for a while on the beach.  Please take a look and let me know what should be added.  If anyone wants to make a report on an LVT I would be glad to include it on the website with acknowledgement to the writer.  Next I plan to add a few pages next week on LVTS 9, 14, and some in the 30s.  NOt much info on these except pictures and the damage report.

Troops,

Been adding lots of info on LVTs.  Basic framework is up and I will continue adding pages for each LVT until I have exhausted my picture archive.  Then will work on aerial photos.  http://tarawaontheweb.org/lvt.htm

Merry Christmas, Jon and to all! Here is LVT-1 #32. I can send higher resolution in e-mail if that helps.

10, 32 and I believe was 25, occupied by Japanese until shelled by Marine pack howitzers to evict the snipers.

Re : is the #32 in the circle? - Not to my knowledge. I looked at Jon's LVT info on TOTW and saw that he did not have a picture of 32 so sent it accordingly.

How did you post such a large resolution image?

Hey Gunny... Jon got more storage space and was able to bump the size of pictures up. I forgot the upper end but it still is limited. I think maybe 500KB now? Jon should be able to confirm... Happy New Year sir!

Thanks all!  More LVT info is being added.  I still have a few more to post.  If you see anything that needs correction please let me know.  I still have Gunny's info to post on each LVT as well.  I keep finding a couple more pictures here and there so not quite done yet.  It seems like I have not found many LVT2 pictures for some reason.

Question to the forum:

The LVT(2)'s seem to have a numbering system beginning with "2-xx-" with many on the cockpit front. Is this simply to designate the LVT as a model 2?

Actually Jon the number 2 was added knowing that LVTs (LVT-1s) were already being assigned numbers for wave unit cohesion, and to avoid misidentification during the combat phase of the campaign the LVT-2s, which were arriving on the very morning of the assault and not a part of the first wave, carried their own sequential numerals preceded by the number 2. After Tarawa of course the process was no longer necessary.
